Professional Background
Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi serves as Director, Geographical Information System at Milestones Centre for Soil Restoration, leading the spatial and site-classification work that underpins how the company scopes and designs every engagement.
Milestones works across a defined set of site types, tank farms and fuel depots, workshops and maintenance yards, pipeline corridors and spill areas, industrial estates, redevelopment and brownfield land, landfill margins, and ports and coastal industrial land, each carrying a distinct contaminant profile and a treatability tested route. Dr. Abdullahi's role is to make sure site classification and spatial data are accurate from the first site visit, since the route selected for a tank farm (biological and chemical oxidation) is not the route selected for a landfill margin (containment and immobilisation).
He brings a research and academic career built around geography, spatial analysis and remote sensing, including a PhD in Geography from the University of Colombo and an MSc in Geographical Information Systems from the University of Leicester. That academic depth, paired with expert command of GIS platforms such as ArcGIS and Erdas Imagine, is what lets him turn raw site data into the classification decisions Milestones acts on.
